Kilby Finishes Runner-Up, FIU Ties for Sixth at Johnie Imes Invitational

Kilby and Spence record career-best finishes to lead the Panthers

COLUMBIA, Mo. – FIU women's golf standout Karissa Kilby (-2) finished runner-up with a 2-under-par 214 after Wednesday's final round at the Johnie Imes Invitational to notch a career-best finish and lead FIU to a sixth-place result out of 15 teams at the par-72, 6,264-yard Club at Old Hawthorne. Arlynn Spence (+10) also parred a tournament-best 42 of 54 holes en route to recording her career-best finish tied for 25th to help pace the Panthers.
 
FIU (+35) tied for sixth with Cal Baptist with a total score of 899, while scoring wins over South Dakota, Bradley, Arkansas State, Illinois State, Wichita State, Missouri State and Drake.
 
Additionally, the Panthers finished third amongst the 15-team field in total pars (146) and par-4 scoring (+30).
 
Kilby led the 84-player field with 15 birdies en route to her first career runner-up finish, as the sophomore used a pair of strong back-nine performances over the opening 36 holes to record a 70 and 71 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Kilby then added six birdies through the final 18 to card a 73 and secure the runner-up finish by three strokes.

The sophomore has finished under par in three of six rounds played this fall. 
 
Oral Roberts' Sarah Bell (-4) edged Kilby by just two strokes for low medalist honors, as host Missouri (+13) captured the team crown by 11 strokes over Lipscomb (+24), followed by NIU (+27) in third.
 
Spence, a sophomore from Lakeland, Fla., matched a 54-hole career low of 226 to notch her career-best finish - highlighted by a final-round 74, which included a birdie on No. 13, to conclude the Johnie Imes Invitational with her lowest round over the three-day span.
 
Junior Millburn Ho (+16) finished tied for 47th with a total score of 232, followed by senior Jenna Chun (+17) tied for 52nd with a score of 233.
 
Freshman Casey Yu (+19) rounded out the lineup tied for 62nd with a score of 235, while marking one of six golfers amongst the field to record an eagle over the tournament's 54 holes.
 
UP NEXT
FIU prepares to host the 45th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational in Bradenton, Fla., on Oct. 15-17. The Panthers then wrap the fall slate up at the Mercer Invitational on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 prior to spring action in 2023.
