MIAMI (Jan. 17, 2022) – Swimming and Diving is on the road Wednesday afternoon for a dual meet against Florida Gulf Coast University.

SPRINTING PAST THE COMPETITION
The last time out, FIU earned a convincing victory in the FIU Sprint Invite.

The Panthers earned 1,555 points in the meet to take first place.
Â
In the unique sprint format FIU dominated, placing six swimmers in the finals out of a possible eight spots and winning two of the four 50-yard sprint races. Sophomore
Jessica Shpilko won the butterfly (25.17) with fellow sophomore
Christie Chue winning the breaststroke (28.85).

Graduate student
Maha Gouda once against swept the dive events, winning the 1-meter (281.10) and the 3-meter (296.30) competitions.

The Panthers also took first in the six traditional races, also earning first through third in four of the six races.

MAKING A MARK
FIU is in its first season in the American Athletic Conference and have made an instant impact.
Â
As the conference tournament quickly approaches, the Panthers own 32 top 10 times, 21 top five times and three top times.
Â
Chue owns two top times in The American, sitting atop the standings in the 200-breast (2:09.89) and in the 200-individual medley (2:00.01).

The Panthers have also posted the best time in the 800-free relay as the team of
Nicole Frank,
Eriana Temperino,
Ryan Flynn and
Ana Daisson posted a 7:19.03 at the Purdue Invitational.

UP NEXT
FIU closes out the regular season on Saturday January 28 when they host cross-town rivals FAU. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m. at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus.
