MIAMI (Dec. 2, 2022) – Swimming and Diving is set to host the FIU Sprint Invite on Tuesday, January 3 at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus with racing starting at 10 a.m.
The FIU Sprint Invite features a full slate of swim and dive events, but with all the 50-yard races using a unique tournament-style scoring.
Swimmers in the 50-yard races will battle it out over three rounds with the final round being a two-person head-to-head race. The 50-yard races will include the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.
WRANGLING THE HERD
The Panthers are coming off a convincing, 191-108, victory over former conference rival Marshall.
FIU took first place in 13 of the 15 events on the day, including a full sweep of the three relay races.
Senior
Lamija Medosevic and Freshman
Harliai Curthoys-Davies were the standouts against Marshall, with each of them collecting three individual wins and two relay wins.
On the dive side, graduate student
Serena Buchwald picked up her first win of the season taking first in the three-meter with a 265.80.
REINFORCEMENTS
FIU is starting the new year with three new swimmers joining the team in
Oumy Diop, Var Eidesgaard and
Ingrid Huszar.
Diop is a Senegalese international who has had success on the international level as a five-time medalist in the African Championships.
Eidesgaard comes to Miami from the Faroe Islands. She is on of the nation's most decorated swimmers with 10 individual national records across short course and long course competitions.
Huszar is backstroke specialist from Oradea, Romania. She brings even more international experience to the FIU roster, having appeared at the LEN European Aquatics Junior Championships.

FIU is back will be back in the pool on Wednesday, January 18 when they head to Fort Meyers for a dual meet with Florida Gulf Coast University.
