Women's Soccer Earns Point on the Road at New Mexico State in 1-1 Draw

Panthers have drawn in their last three matches

LAS CRUCES, N.M. The FIU women's soccer team scored four minutes into the match, before eventually drawing against the first-place team in Conference USA, the New Mexico States Aggies, 1-0, on the road Thursday night.

With the draw, FIU sits at 7-3-4 (2-0-3 CUSA), while holding possession of third place in Conference USA with a total of nine points.

In addition, the Panthers handed the Aggies their first draw in conference play after the starting out the conference campaign with five consecutive victories.

The Panthers got on the board quickly as in the 4th minute, sophomore Kim Schneider was able to find the bottom left of the net for her fifth goal of the season by an assist from Hanako Fujii.

With the tally, Schneider is tied for second on the team in goals (5), Fujji logged her first assist of the campaign.

FIU held the lead until the 36th minute when the reigning player of the week Loma McNeese scored to tie up the match at one heading into the half.

In the last 45 minutes, both teams traded possession in a back-and-fourth matchup with each team combining for 12 shots in the second half, yet ending in a 1-1 result after the full time.

Goalkeeper Ithaisa Vinoly was impactful in the second half, logging all of her five saves late to keep the score even.

On the night, FIU totaled for 12 shots including six on goal as Schneider paced the Panthers with five with junior Noemi Paquin adding in with three.

The Panthers prepare for a Sunday matinee match against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Sunday, Oct. 15.
