MIAMI — FIU women's volleyball program kept its unblemished record in Conference USA intact on Tuesday evening with a thrilling five-set victory over visiting-Middle Tennessee State University.
The Panthers (9-9, 5-0 CUSA) fell in the opening set 26-24, but responded with 27-25 and 25-13 victories to go back in front, 2-1. After MTSU took set four 25-18, FIU outlasted the Raiders in the final frame, 18-16, to continue its program-record start in Conference USA.
Yasso Amin stuffed the stat sheet for FIU in the win, racking up 13 kills while adding five service aces and 7.0 total blocks, two solo. Mackenzie Morgan and Jade Sadeiko also had double-digit kills, finishing with 11 kills each.
As a team, FIU posted 14.0 total blocks and held MTSU to a .199 hitting percentage. The Panthers hit at a solid .247 clip, highlighted by a .421 attack percentage in the fifth set.
Savannah Cook dished out 40 assists while Mandi Morioka led the team with 11 digs.
FIU takes on MTSU in the final game of this two-game series at home tomorrow, Wednesday Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. ET.
