MIAMI – The FIU softball team dropped its final game of the Felsberg Invitational against No. 10 Clemson by a 4-0 margin on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (3-2) held the Tigers scoreless for the opening three innings before a one-run fourth and three-run fifth put Clemson ahead.
Julia Bomhardt scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Caroline Jacobsen to make the score 1-0 in the fourth.
Clemson (4-0) added three more in a fifth inning that was keyed by a two-RBI double by Maddie Moore. Valerie Cagle drove in the final run of the contest with an RBI single.
Sophomore
Brooke McCann paced the Panthers with a pair of hits. Junior
Carmen Perez added a double.
Freshman catcher
Isabella Perez continued her solid defensive play as threw out her fifth runner in six stolen base attempts over the opening five games of the season.
FIU junior
Sydney Birling (0-1) took the loss. She allowed two runs and four hits over four innings of work.
Clemson's Cagle (2-0) earned the win with a complete-game effort that saw her limit the Panthers to no runs and five hits over seven innings. She fanned 11 hitters and did not issue a walk.
The Panthers continue their current homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 15 vs. Stetson in a 4 p.m. ET first pitch at Felsberg Field in Miami.
