DALLAS, Texas – FIU men's basketball standout freshman Arturo Dean was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week presented by Blenders Eyewear, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The nod marks the fourth weekly award this received this season for Dean, extending his program record for most C-USA Freshman of the Week honors recorded by a Panther rookie in a season.
 
Dean stuffed the stat sheet with 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists to help FIU earn a crucial C-USA victory over Louisiana Tech on Feb. 11 upon splitting a pair of league games last week, while also tying FIU's freshman single-season steals record (66) last set by FIU legend Carlos Arroyo during the 1997-98 campaign.
 
The Miami native recorded 10 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists en route to helping lead FIU to its first win over Louisiana Tech since 2019, 66-62, inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. Dean then followed with another 10-point effort against Rice on Saturday, adding two assists, two rebounds and two steals – tying Arroyo's mark in the game - apiece in a hard-fought effort.
 
Dean's 66 steals on the season rank him third in the nation, while his 2.5 steals per game place him fifth in the nation.
 
The first-year's averaging 11.7 points, having net 129 field goals this season (6^th C-USA) on 45.9 percent shooting while also pacing FIU in rebounds per game (4.2). Dean's reached double-figure scoring in 18 games for the Panthers.
