FIU Women's Golf Finishes in Second at Sea Best Intercollegiate

Panthers finish runner-up in season opening tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FIU women's golf team placed four Panthers within the top 20, including two in the top 10, to secure a second-place finish out of 14 teams at the Sea Best Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville, at the par-72, 6,084-yard San Jose Country Club on Tuesday afternoon. Riley Hamilton (+6) and Casey Yu (+7) paced FIU with career-best top-10 finishes, as the Panthers (+29) finished with a score of 893. 



The Panthers held a two-stroke lead in first heading into Tuesday's final round, though, Campbell (+26) rallied behind a 1-over-par team performance on the final day to win the tournament's crown by three strokes with a score of 890.

Nonetheless, FIU collected wins over 12 schools in Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Houston Christian, USC Upstate, University of Louisiana-Monroe, Wofford, Stetson, Seminole State, Presbyterian, Dayton State, Eastern Kentucky and Navy. 

Additionally, FIU finished second amongst the 14-team field in total pars (177). 

Hamilton led as FIU's top finisher, finishing tied for seventh to collect her first career top-10 finish behind a new 54-hole career low score of 222, capped by a final round 75 on Tuesday. Hamilton also led the team in pars, parring a team-best 38 of 54 holes. 

Freshman Casey Yu earned her first career top-10 finish, tying for ninth behind a new 54-hole career low score of 225 – which featured her 18-hole career low score of 73 in Monday's second round. Yu recorded six birdies over the three-day span, recording a 75 in Tuesday's final round to cap her career performance. 

Arlynn Spence (+9) added her first career top-20 finish, recording a new 54-hole career low score of 225 behind a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 17th, while corralling six birdies over the tournament's span.

Sophomore Karissa Kilby (+12) finished tied for 12th with a score of 224 to round out the Panthers in the top 20, while leading the team with seven birdies. 

Freshman Kelly Shanahan (+14) recorded a career performance with a new 54-hole low of 230 to round out FIU's lineup tied for 37th, while Jenna Chun (+18) recorded six birdies as an individual to finish tied for 45th – second-best among individuals – with a score of 234.

FIU returns to action on the course when it travels to compete in the Vystar Gators Invitational, hosted by University of Florida, in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday, Mar. 4-5.
