MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore
Ashton Lansdell led off a game with a homer for the second straight day and freshman hurler
Megan Kruger went the distance as the FIU softball posted a 4-1 victory over Siena in its final action at The Spring Games on Sunday afternoon.
Lansdell gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with her third home run of the year before sparking a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff triple. The Panthers followed with three RBI singles in the frame by
Abigail Brown,
Ella Whitney and
Carmen Perez to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Siena avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth on a run-scoring base hit by Ava Fitzmaurice.
Kruger (2-1) earned the win while notching her second complete game of the season by limiting the Saints to three hits and one run over seven innings. She walked three and struck out two.
The win moved the Panthers overall record to 9-8, while Siena slipped to 7-3.
The Panthers nearly pulled out a Sunday sweep as they led Notre Dame in the opener by a 3-0 count through four innings before the Irish responded with four unanswered runs to sneak away with a 4-3 win.
FIU opened its 3-0 advantage in the third on a two RBI single by Whitney and a run-scoring single from
Morgan Adams.
Notre Dame trimmed the deficit to 3-2 on a two-run homer by Jane Kronenberger in the bottom of the fifth.
The Irish (9-4) scored the tying and eventual winning runs in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly and a steal of home on the backend of a double swipe by Joley Mitchell.
