DALLAS, Texas – FIU men's basketball's Jayden Brewer was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week presented by Blenders Eyewear, as announced by the league office on Monday, as Brewer's first career nod marks the first time in program history three different Panthers have been selected for freshman of the week honors in a season.
 
Additionally, the occurrence marks the first time since 2019 any Conference USA team has had three different freshmen selected for C-USA Freshman of the Week honors (UTEP, 2019). Brewer joins classmates Arturo Dean (4x) and Dashon Gittens as FIU's three freshman to receive weekly honors this season.
 
Brewer, a freshman from Indianapolis, Ind., led the Panthers last week with averages of 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds on 80.0 percent shooting over FIU's two games last week.
 
The freshman opened the week tallying a career and team-high 22 points against UTEP on Thursday (Feb. 23) on 10-of-13 shooting, in addition to a season-high four rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench. Brewer then followed with his second straight double-figure performance, recording 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting against UTSA on Saturday, while adding four rebounds, an assist, block and steal in 21 minutes.
 
Additionally, Brewer was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe for the week.
