MIAMI (Mar. 29, 2023) – Swim and Dive had a strong 2022-23 season that saw a second place finish in the American Athletic Conference, a 12th-striaght NCAA Championships appearance and boasted two All-Americans.

After a historic run in C-USA of eight-consecutive conference championships, FIU made the move to The American this past season. The Panthers more than proved themselves in the new conference and made an instant impact.

"This arguably one of the best performances as a team that we have had during my time at FIU," said Head Coach
Randy Horner. "It may be a little misleading that we did not win the conference championship this year but when you look at the overall performance it was an amazing year, especially when you factor in all things we had to overcome."

During the regular season, FIU captured seven AAC Athlete of the Week honors with
Christie Chue being named Swimmer of the Week three times,
Maha Gouda being named Diver of the Week four times and the two of them sweeping the awards twice.

At The American Championships the Panthers took second overall with Houston just edging out FIU by 11.5 points.

FIU captured more gold medals than any team at the conference championships with eight. The Panthers boasted the best overall relay team with FIU capturing gold in four of the five relay races, with the 400-medley team setting a new school record. Freshman
Nicole Frank was named the 2023 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

On the diving board the Panthers set a new team points record at the conference championships, scoring 300.10. Gouda took gold in the platform dive, setting a new conference record with a 296.10.

The Panthers appearance at the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships marked the program's 12th-consecutive appearance, the longest active streak of any mid major program. With two points finishes, FIU would place 38th overall.

Chue represented FIU Swim, racing in the 100 and 200-breast. It marked the sophomores second-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships.
In the 100-breast she took 16th overall and set a new program record in the prelims with a 59.10. Her 100-breast performance earned her 2nd Team All American honors. In the 200-breast she would place 23rd overall.

Gouda qualified for the NCAA Championships platform dive after advancing out of NCAA Zone B. She finished 14th overall and was named a 2nd Team All-American.

FIU also competed at the CSCAA National Invite in 2023 and performed well. The Panthers captured 15 top 20 finishes with nine in the top 10 and four medal finishes.
Frank took gold in the 200-individual medley, freshman
Oumy Diop took bronze in the 50-fly, senior
Delaine Goll took bronze in the 200-breast and the 400-free relay team took bronze.

"I am very proud of our Ladies," added Horner. "This is one of the best seasons in FIU history and we look forward to that being a platform to achieve even greater things."

The Panthers not only performed in the pool but also in the classroom.

Swim & Dive finished the Fall Semester with a 3.70 team GPA, the highest GPA of any team at FIU. They boasted 20 athletes with a GPA above 3.5 and three holding perfect 4.0 GPAs. For thier efforts in the classroom, the team was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America team.
