ORLANDO, Fla. – The FIU softball team lost a 9-1 decision in a non-conference game at UCF on Tuesday afternoon as the Knights scored nine runs off nine hits in five innings.
Following a scoreless opening frame, UCF posted a pair of runs in the second to open a 2-0 edge. Kennedy Searcy got things started with a triple to left and scored on a subsequent FIU throwing error. Shannon Doherty followed one hitter later with a solo blast to left to give the Knights a two-run advantage.
UCF (25-18) added three more runs in the third on a two-RBI triple by Aubrey Evans and a run-scoring single from Doeherty.
The Knights sealed the win with a four-run fourth to open a 9-0 edge. Doherty added her third RBI of the contest with a bases-loaded walk and was followed with a RBI single from Shelli DiPuma and a base hit from Savannah Adams that plated a pair.
The Panthers (18-22) scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the fifth on a RBI double to left by
Morgan Adams, which drove home
Lindsey Burroughs.
Freshman
Brooke McNichols (6-3) took the loss for the Panthers after allowing five runs, four of which were earned and seven hits over two innings.
Sarah Willis (9-3) picked up the win for UCF by limiting the Panthers to three hits over four innings.
