(RV) Men’s Soccer Returns Home to Open American Conference Play vs Temple

FIU looks for third win of the season

MIAMI – The (RV) FIU Men's Soccer team returns back to the 305 as they open American Athletic conference play against the Temple Owls on Saturday night from FIU Soccer Stadium.

FIU returns home after a matchup this past Monday, Sept.11 against No. 5 Akron Zips in a 1-0 loss. 

The Panthers outshot the Zips 14-12 with junior Eduardo Mustre leading the team in shots with five. 

The offense is led by Mustre, who is first on the team in goals (3) and points (7) in his first season donning the Blue & Gold. 

Newcomer Kasper Skraep shined with a pair of goals on the season and four points. 

Veterans Bernardo Dos Santos Monterio and Fumiya Shirashi have been impactful with 14 shots each on the early campaign. 

On the backline, Owen Travis leads the team on defense having played in a total of 519 minutes on the pitch. 

LAST TIME OUT 

Heading into Saturday's contest, FIU is 1-0 over Temple with their last win coming last season on Oct. 5th in a 3-0 victory in Philadelphia. 

Dos Santos Monterio was the star with a pair of scores to help lead the Panthers in the win. 

SCOUTING TEMPLE 

The Owls head into their conference opener still searching for their first win of 2023. Temple is coming off a road loss to St. Johns on Monday, Sept. 11 in a 7-1 matchup. 

Temple is led by first-year head coach Bryan Green, who comes over from the University of Louiville after spending five seasons as the associate head coach. 

The offense is spearheaded by four underclassmen including freshman George Medill who is tied in goals (1) and points (2). 

In net, senior Flannan Riley has played in five matches with a 3.10 goals against average with 16 saves. 
 
INTERNATIONAL 
FIU embraces its name with a truly international roster. This season's Panthers have players from 15 different countries. 
 
The USA leads the way with four players. Denmark, Mexico and France each have three representatives. Portugal, Japan and Germany have two representatives each. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Panthers begin conference play the following match when they take on Temple at home on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
