Swim & Dive Drops to SMU in Dual-Meet Saturday

Panthers post 11 top-three finishes

MIAMI – The FIU swimming & diving program fell to the SMU Mustangs Saturday morning 200-99 from the Biscayne Bay Campus.
 
The Panthers recorded 11 top-three finishes throughout the meet, highlighted by a first-place performance from Oumy Diop in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.79. Diop also contributed to a strong showing in the 200-yard medley relay, teaming up with Frida Stretre Løbersli, Diana Santamaria, and Jessica Shpilko to secure second place with a time of 1:41.58.
 
Freshman Claudia Frasca delivered notable performances, finishing third in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:38.06) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.55).
 
Fellow freshman Sally Olsson made her mark with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.67) and third place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.25).
 
Ellie Maradyn took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:33.48), while Stretre Løbersli claimed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.83). Sophomore Diana
 
Santamaria finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.67), with junior Gabrielle Puryear-Lynch also taking third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.18). Shpilko earned third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.44.
 
Ingrid Huszar took third-place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.83). The Panthers wrapped up the competition with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Tawannah McLemore, Santamaria, Shpilko, and Imara-Bella Thorpe posting a time of 1:34.31.
 
On the diving boards, graduate student Av Osero placed first for a second-straight meet in the 1-meter event, scoring 288.68. Sophomore Kristina Keenan placed third (257.70), while junior Ruska Lehtonen followed closely in fourth (255.45).
 
In the 3-meter event, freshman Brooke Megdall posted a second-place finish (273.15), with Keenan (267.98) and Lehtonen (266.25) taking third and fourth, respectively. Osero completed the event with a fifth-place score of 260.70.
 
UP NEXT
The swimming program heads to Davie for a Tri-Meet against Nova Southeastern and Lynn on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. Diving hosts the South Florida Diving Invitational over the weekend.
