MIAMI – The FIU swimming and diving program fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd, 179-121, in a dual meet Monday night from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
FIU tallied for five first-place finishes on the day including two relay wins.
Freshman
Tawannah McLemore led the way for the Panthers, notching three top finishes. She earned an individual victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.54 and secured second place in the 100-yard freestyle (52.86).
McLemore also contributed to both relay victories. The Panthers opened the meet strong with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as McLemore teamed up with Frida Stretre Løbersli,
Sally Olsson, and
Jessica Shpilko to clock 1:45.23.
FIU closed the meet on a high note with another relay win in the 200-yard freestyle. The squad of
Emma Becker,
Ana Luiza Daisson, McLemore, and Shpilko posted a top time of 1:36.78.
Freshman
Claudia Frasca added an impressive performance, taking first place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.44) and securing second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.38).
Frida Stretre Løbersli grabbed a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 56.97, and placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.21).
In breaststroke events, junior
Ingrid Huszar and freshman
Sally Olsson shined in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing second (1:05.15) and third (1:05.83), respectively. Olsson added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.10), while Huszar took third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.48.
Senior
Jessica Shpilko also performed well, earning second place in the 50-yard freestyle (23.75) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (58.80).
Graduate student
Ellie Maradyn contributed with a third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:55.78), and freshman
Ana Luiza Daisson earned third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.90).
On the diving boards, junior
Ruska Lehtonen led the Panthers with a second-place finish in the 1-meter event (243.68). Freshman
Brooke Megdall (234.25),
Kristina Keenan (234.05), and sophomore
Sydney Soto (232.05) followed, placing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
In the 3-meter diving event, Osero took second place with a score of 263.70, while Keenan earned third (258.15). Megdall (246.10) and Soto (218.55) secured fourth and fifth, respectively, while Lehtonen rounded out the group in sixth (215.25).

Following holiday break, FIU hosts the FIU Diving Invitational beginning on Jan. 2 - Jan. 4. Swimming will host the FIU Sprint Invite on Jan. 4 at 10 a.m. from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
