MIAMI — FIU's men's basketball program suffered its first home Conference USA (CUSA) loss on Thursday evening to first-place Louisiana Tech.
The Panthers (7-15, 2-5 CUSA) could not overcome an early deficit as the Bulldogs (16-6, 6-1 CUSA) secured a 93-53 victory. La Tech led by double-digits with 13:28 to go in the first half and cruised to a convincing victory.
Jayden Brewer led FIU with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and went 6-for-9 from the free throw line. Arturo Dean and Javaunte Hawkins chipped in eight points each.
As a team, the Panthers shot 32.2 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from three and 76.9 percent from the free throw line. FIU had 16 turnovers while the Bulldogs had 14.
Louisiana Tech shot 62.5 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from three along with a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Three Bulldogs scored in double-digits led by Tahlik Chavez' 27 points.
