Men’s Basketball Downed at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — FIU's men's basketball program fell 70-56 at Sam Houston on Thursday evening in Conference USA (CUSA) play.

Jayden Brewer led the Panthers (8-17, 3-7 CUSA) with 15 points, adding three steals in 24 minutes off the bench. FIU matched Sam Houston (14-11, 7-3 CUSA) in the opening minutes, but a Bearkat run to close the half had Sam Houston ahead 39-29 after 20 minutes. 

FIU battled in the second half, limiting Sam Houston to 31 points. Jaidon Lipscomb scored 10 points and also had three assists, two blocks and one steal. 

Arturo Dean racked up three steals to add to his national lead of 86 total steals. As a team, the Panthers shot 35.5 percent from the field and just 7-for-32 from distance. 

FIU had 12 steals and forced 23 turnovers, scoring 25 points off of SHSU miscues. Seth Pinkney led FIU with seven rebounds.
