Tennis Sweeps North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — FIU's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 win over North Florida on Friday. 

FIU (4-2) won its third-straight match in convincing fashion, earning the doubles point and three consecutive singles victories. This was the Panthers' first sweep of the 2024 season. 

Valery Gynina and Aleksandra Simeva won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to get FIU off to a fast start. A short time later, Katerina Mandelikova and Oyinlomo Quadre won by a score of 6-2 at the No. 1 slot, giving the Panthers a 1-0 advantage. 

Ekaterina Khairutdinova downed her opponent at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2 to continue to add to FIU's lead. Mandelikova wrapped up her match at No. 3 singles quickly as well, winning 6-2, 6-4. 

Salma Loudili, playing at No. 5 singles, clinched the match for FIU with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Petja Drame held a 6-1, 4-1 lead when the match went final at the No. 6 slot.

Quadre, FIU's No. 1, also had a lead, ahead 6-3, 5-1. 

UP NEXT

The Panthers will head to Texas to take on North Texas and SMU on Feb. 23 and 25, respectively.
