MIAMI - The FIU baseball program opened up a four-game set with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday night, dropping game one, 13-4, from FIU Baseball Stadium.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, noted by a three-run homer by TJ Williams in the top of the first.
FIU cashed in on RBIs by a pair of groundouts by
Ryne Guida and
Kishon Frett, cutting the deficit to two.
The Fighting Irish extended their lead to 8-2 heading into the sixth when Frett hit a towering drive out to left centerfield for his first home run as a Panther, two-run homer
In the seventh, and eigth, Notre Dame scored five unanswered runs to win 13-4 in game one.
Jackson Ritchey (0-1) was tagged with the loss, going three innings allowing six earned runs and struck out four. Lefty
Zac Lampton fired three inning, allowing just a hit and two runs.
Armando Becerra, Frett,
Jeff Liquori, and
Alex Ulloa all notched hits on the night.
UP NEXT
FIU prepares for a doubleheader Saturday against the Fighting Irish. Game one is set for 2 p.m. followed by game two at 6 p.m. In addition, former head coach Danny Price will throw out the honorary first pitch prior to game two.
