LYNCHBURG, VA (February 24, 2024) - Head coach Ryan Heberling saw his indoor track team once again make program history at the Conference USA Indoor Championships, earning a fourth place finish with 84 points, seven medalists, and two school records after two days of competition in Lynchburg.

"We set out with lofty team goals," said Heberling. "If you don't bring home the first place trophy you're always going to want a little more, but we set out some goals for the team working together and not relying on one or two people and I thought our team did a great job of that."

Valerie Lastra set the tone to start the day, capturing gold in the mile with a time of 4:39. Later in the day, the junior doubled back to take the silver medal in the 3000, earning 18 points on the day for FIU.

Her fellow mid-distance teammate Ane Martin Del Campo excelled in the 800, setting a school record in the event with a 2:08.96, passing Daira Deicmane for the top all-time FIU mark en route to a bronze medal in her freshman campaign.

Fellow freshman Danielle McGonigle earned points in her first CUSA Indoor meet taking sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.67m.

"Everyone took on that battle of trying to do it as a team," said Heberling. "Definitely with the way our team is designed and built - we're ready for outdoors."
