Beach Volleyball Sweeps Day 2 of the Jacksonville Invite

The Panthers go undefeated in the Jacksonville Invite, starting off their season 5-0

Jacksonville, Fla. – The No. 13 FIU Beach Volleyball team (5-0) starts out the 2024 season undefeated after sweeping the Jacksonville Invite 5-0. The Panthers top-three pairs in (1) Giada Bianchi and Reka Orsi Toth, (2) Alice Pratesi and Lisa Luini and (3) Zuzanna Bielak and Lucie Pokorna all went undefeated in the invite.

FIU dominated the entire day, led by senior Giada Bianchi and graduate student Reka Orsi Toth on court 1, winning each of their matches in straight sets. Against UTC, the pair won their matches 21-10 then 21-17. The pair continued their commanding presence against PBA, finishing off the sailfish 21-14 and 21-9, before ending the meet sweeping Jacksonville's court 1 pair 21-12 and 22-20.

FIU's court 2 pair in Alice Pratesi and Reka Orsi Toth governed in similar fashion, sweeping UTC 21-10 and 21-11, before knocking off PBA 21-12 and 21-15. The pair then went on to sweep Jacksonville in straight sets 21-17 and 21-18 before handing it off to Zuzanna Bielak and Lucie Pokorna in court three, who also swept the competition on day two of the invite. The pair downed UTC in straight sets 21-18 and 21-13, then going on to finish off PBA 21-8 and 21-16. Finally, the pair ended their weekend against Jacksonville 21-8 and 21-14. 

Against UTC's pair in court five, Paola Alvarado and Ariana Castro emerged victorious, dropping one set and winning two to secure a win for the Panthers. FIU switched up pairs in the next match against PBA, with Hania Taduran and Zoe Cahill winning in straight sets 21-17 and 21-17 on court four before Emma Braticevic and Maria Fernanda Vinatea Sánchez finished the sweep on court five. 

Braticevic and Sánchez continued their winning ways on court five against Jacksonville, winning in straight sets 22-20 and 21-10, rounding off a dominant first invite of the 2024 season.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will host the FIU Invite, welcoming Barry University, Emmanuel University and rematch against Palm Beach Atlantic. The event will occur Friday March 1-Saturday March 2, with the Panthers playing at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
