Box Score DALLAS — FIU's women's tennis program won its fifth-straight match on Sunday afternoon, downing SMU 4-3.
The Panthers (5-2) and the Mustangs battled back-and-forth as the contest came down to the final matchup. Petja Drame clinched the match for FIU, coming back from a 3-0 deficit in the third set to win 6-3.
FIU opened the match with a victory in 2-of-3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At the No. 1 position, Oyinlomo Quadre and Katerina Mandelikova defeated the No. 50 doubles team from SMU 6-2.
Salma Loudili and Ekaterina Khairutdinova cliched the doubles win for the Panthers with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
FIU secured the win with three singles victories from its Nos. 4,5 and 6 players. Mandelikova notched another win at No. 4 singles 6-3, 7-6.
Salma Loudili fell in the opening set 6-4, but evened up the match with a 6-2 win in set two. In the final set, she earned a 6-4 win to make the score 3-3.
The Panthers will now have a stretch of almost two months where they will be at home in Miami. FIU only has home matches remaining and will also play host to the 2024 CUSA Championships April 18-21.
