Box Score MIAMI — FIU's 27th-ranked women's tennis program defeated 40th-ranked Yale University at home on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers (9-2) defeated the Bulldogs with four wins at singles to earn their eight-straight win. Following a defeat in doubles, FIU quickly regained momentum with wins at Nos. 2,3,4 and 6 to clinch the match.
Katerina Mandelikova and Oyinlomo Quadre secured the win at No. 1 doubles, but Yale responded with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take a 1-0 match lead.
Valery Gynina secured the first win for FIU in singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. At No. 2 singles, Ekaterina Khairutdinova gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Mandelikova had a battle at No. 4 singles, but earned a 6-4, 7-5 win to put FIU on the edge of securing the match. Petja Drame at No. 6 defeated her opponent 7-6, 6-3 a short time later to put the bow on the win for FIU.
