MIAMI - From a packed house at FIU Baseball Stadium, the FIU baseball fell 14-7 to crosstown rival, the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday evening in a midweek tilt.
The Panthers held onto a 7-6 lead nto the seventh inning before Miami tacked on six runs in the inning to charge their way to a victory on the road.
FIU battled hard through the first six innings on Tuesday, going toe-toe with the ACC foe. After Miami got on the scoreboard first in the 1st inning, FIU responded with a RBI single for
Austin Dearing, who extended his on-base streak to 13 games.
After the Hurricanes put up three runs in the third, the Panthers had a answer with three runs of their own as
Alex Ulloa and
Jeff Liquori each recorded RBI singles, while
Kishon Frett tacked on a RBI on a fielder's choice.
Miami scored a pair in the fourth, while FIU cut the deficit in half on a Dearing sacrifice fly. In the fifth, the Panthers tied up the ballgame on a solo blast off the bat of Frett that went a distance of 467 feet. For the redshirt junior, he launched his 10th homer of the year and marked his fourth straight game with a long ball.
Into the sixth, FIU charged on for their first lead of the night as
Adrian Figueroa lined a single into left field, bringing home Dearing, making it 7-6.
Miami stormed back with six runs in the seventh and a pair in the ninth to take the win.
Southpaw
David Eckaus got the start against Miami for a second straight week, allowing no earned runs over two innings of work.
Zac Lampton also rang up a pair of scoreless frames with a strikeout.
Freshman
Evan Alwine was tagged with the loss, giving up two earned runs in 1.1 innings pitched on Tuesday.
Ryne Guida had a solid night at the dish with a three-hit performance, his seventh multi-hit game of the season. Ulloa continues to scorch with the bat, adding in with a three-hit night as well. The junior has racked up 16 hits with six RBIs in his past nine games played and upped his hitting streak to eight games.
Dearing led the way with a pair of RBIs, adding along with 13 hits in his past 13 games.
