Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth, Shanahan Places 11th to Conclude CUSA Championships

FIU finished second in the field as a team with 45 birdies

MAGNOLIA, Texas — FIU's women's golf program wrapped up its three-day stay at the Conference USA (CUSA) Championships with a fourth-place finish on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Panthers moved up the leader board in Rounds Two and Three to secure fourth-place at the CUSA Championships at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in the Lone Star State. 

Kelly Shanahan posted a final round 69 (-3) and was the Panthers' top finisher, securing 11th-place. Anika Veintemilla also notched a solid finish for FIU, finishing with a combined score of 221 (+5), tied-13th place. 

Karissa Kilby was also in the top-20 with a score of 222 (+6), finishing tied-17th. Arlynn Spence finished tied-23rd and Gabriella Gomez finished 25th. 

As a team, FIU finished second in overall birdies with 45 birdies, only trailing Sam Houston. Shanahan and Veintemilla both had 10 birdies individually to lead the team. Gomez and Kilby totaled nine each. 

After an opening round 302, FIU bounced back with rounds of 287 and 293, respectively.
