GAINESVILLE, Fla. — FIU's 28th-ranked women's tennis program was defeated by No. 22 Miami 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (19-3) season came to a close on Saturday as the Hurricanes claimed the doubles point and three of four finished singles matches. FIU's Valery Gynina secured a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles for the Panthers' team point.
Oyinlomo Quadre and Katerina Mandelikova will participate the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships events in Stillwater, Okla. May 20-25.
FIU finishes its season as the back-to-back Conference USA (CUSA) Champions for the first time in program history. This was the fourth-straight NCAA appearance for the Panthers under head coach Katarina Petrovic and the 13th appearance in program history.
