HUNTSVILLE, Texas — FIU's men's basketball program travels to Sam Houston for a Conference USA (CUSA) tilt on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (7-9, 1-2 CUSA) take on the Bearkats (7-9, 0-3 CUSA) at 3:30 p.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. CT at the Bernard C. Johnson Coliseum on Saturday in Huntsville, Texas.

Series History: Sam Houston leads 4-2 (SHSU won 2-of-3 last season)
FIU fell in its first CUSA road game of 2025 at Louisiana Tech, 81-64, on Thursday night in Ruston, La. Jayden Brewer and Jonathan Aybar both scored 15 points each to lead the offensive effort. Travis Gray scored in double-digits for the second time in four games, finishing with 11 points off the bench.
The Panthers split with Sam Houston during the regular season in 2024 in their first season as CUSA opponents. FIU defeated the Bearkats 68-61 at home and fell to Sam Houston 70-56 on the road. Brewer poured in 15 points in the matchup at Sam Houston and scored a combined 23 points in the two games.
FIU was also defeated by the top-seeded Bearkats, 78-59, in the first round of the 2024 CUSA Tournament in Huntsville, Ala. The Panthers are in search of their first CUSA road win since a 90-83 win at Rice on March 4, 2023.
SCOUTING SAM HOUSTON
The Bearkats, last season's CUSA Regular Season Champions, are currently winless in CUSA play to start their 2025 slate. SHSU was defeated by Liberty, 76-68, at home on Thursday evening in a nationally-televised contest on CBS Sports Network.
Standout guard Lamar Wilkerson led the scoring for the Bearkats with 25 points. Marcus Boykin chipped in 16 points in support. This duo accounted for 60.2 percent of Sam Houston's scoring in the contest.
Wilkerson is currently CUSA's second-leading scorer with 19.2 ppg. He is the conference's leader in three-pointers made per game (55) and three-point field goal percentage (44.0). As a team, the Bearkats rank first in CUSA in three-point percentage and 17th-nationally, averaging 39.0 percent from deep.
