Tennis Wraps Up First Weekend of 2025 Action at FIU Invitational

Valery Gynina went 6-0 between singles and doubles to lead the Panthers

MIAMI — FIU's women's tennis program had its first weekend of competition in 2025 from Friday-Sunday, hosting the FIU Invitational at its PayCargo Tennis Complex. 

The Panthers, Conference USA's (CUSA) defending back-to-back Champions, hosted competitors from Missouri, Houston, DePaul and Florida Atlantic for individual competition over the weekend. FIU's squad performed well in its final tune-up for the 2025 dual season, of which begins on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Coral Gables, facing off with Miami. 

Valery Gynina had an excellent three days to lead the Panthers, garnering victories in all three of her singles and doubles matches, posting a 6-0 record. Doubles teammate Ekaterina Khairutdinova teamed up with Gynina for three convincing doubles' victories over opponents from Houston, Missouri and Florida Atlantic.

Oyinlomo Quadre returned to the court and claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory in her only individual match of the weekend. Newcomers Anja Draskovic and Dana Baidaulet also earned singles wins on the final day of the competition. Draskovic, a transfer from VCU, went 2-1 on the weekend in individual play, a solid start in her first career matches as a Panther. 

Petja Drame and Alexandra Simeva teamed up for a doubles win over their opponents from Missouri, 6-3, on the second day of competition. Both also notched singles wins on Day Two. Simeva finished the weekend with a 2-1 record. 

UP NEXT

The Panthers open up their dual season with a matchup at Miami in Coral Gables on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Noon.
