MIAMI– Enrique Mutsoli tallied a goal in the 29th minute and FIU men's soccer (5-4-2, 3-1 American) never looked back from that point, storming to a 3-0 advantage in the first and holding on over Temple (1-7-2, 0-3), winning 3-1 on Thursday night.
It was Mutsoli who capitalized on his second of the season on a broken play in the 29th minute. Joao Domingues crossed it to
Nicolas Villalobos, whose redirected pass went directly to Mutsoli for the tally.
Not even ten minutes later,
Leonardo Consoloni picked up his first helper of the game - finding
Johan Arevalo for his first goal as a Panther off a corner kick in the 39th minute to give the team a 2-0 lead.
FIU continued to strike in quick succession, once again finding the back of the net in the 44th minute. A long pass from Consoloni went directly to
Owen Travis, and the sixth-year defender recorded his first career goal on the set-up for a commanding 3-0 lead.
While the Owls answered back in the 48th, FIU controlled the rest of the game and didn't allow Temple to score any more.
Nigel Van Haveren turned aside another three shots in goal to earn the win.
Of FIU's 13 shots, Mutsoli and Travis combined for six of them in the contest. Travis and Consoloni were among those to log a full 90 minutes alongside
Mathys Lefebvre and
Alfonso Gilleard-Soriano.
