MIAMI – Redshirt freshman Fantasia James has earned her first-ever C-USA Freshman of the Week honors for the period ending February 16, as announced by league officials on Monday afternoon.
The week saw James score 12.5 points per game on 58% shooting, while also grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game and swatting 1.5 blocks per game.
The guard had a career-best performance in the Panthers' victory over UTEP on Thursday, posting personal highs in both points and rebounds. She finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, nearly recording her first career double-double in the process.
James also tied her career-high with six field goals made and set a new personal best with three three-pointers. Additionally, the athletic guard contributed two assists and two blocks, helping the Panthers split the season series with UTEP.
James continued her strong play in FIU's game against New Mexico State at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, scoring seven points, grabbing four rebounds, and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also added one block and played 32 minutes, marking the fourth time this season she has logged 30 or more minutes in a game.
This marks the first time this season that an FIU player has earned either C-USA Freshman of the Week or Player of the Week honors.
