MIAMI — FIU's women's tennis program won its seventh-straight match on Tuesday afternoon, edging out ETSU 4-3 at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The 66th-ranked Panthers (9-2) downed the 73rd-ranked Buccaneers (7-5) courtesy of a doubles win and wins at the top-three singles slots. FIU remains undefeated at its home courts, of which were opened just prior to the 2024 CUSA Championships in May '24.
The Panthers' top-two doubles tandems won by identical 6-3 scores to give FIU the 1-0 lead in the match. Ekaterina Khairutdinova played with Oyinlomo Quadre at No. 1 while Katerina Mandelikova and Anja Draskovic were the second doubles pair.
In singles, Khairutdinova and Quadre won in straight sets once again to put FIU up 3-0. After a win from ETSU at No. 5, Gynina technically clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win to give FIU a 4-1 lead. Both sides agreed to play all singles matches to completion and wins from the Buccaneers at Nos. 4 and 6 sealed the 4-3 final for FIU.
Khairutdinova won 6-3, 6-1 at the top slot and is yet to lose in a dual this season. Quadre is now 8-2 in duals this year after winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
