LYNCHBURG, Va. – Five members of the FIU baseball program have earned All-Conference USA recognition, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Starting pitcher
Easton Marks and infielder
Brylan West were named to the All-CUSA First Team, while senior outfielder
Kishon Frett garnered Second Team honors. Freshmen
Cole Cleveland and
Andrew Ildefonso were both named to the All-Freshman Team.
It marks the most first team selections for the Panthers since 2014 when pitcher Mike Franco and catcher Aramis Garcia earned the honors.
Marks impressed in his first season wearing the Blue & Gold, leading the team with 67 innings pitched and 72 strikeouts across 14 starts. The Arapahoe, Colo. native posted a 3.49 ERA and recorded four outings of six or more innings. He delivered a pair of career-high seven-inning performances against Kennesaw State (April 17) and Liberty (May 9), and matched his career-high with nine strikeouts vs. Delaware on Feb. 22. Marks is the first Panther pitcher to earn First Team All-CUSA honors since Logan Allen in 2019.
West earned All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season and lands on the First Team for the first time. The senior has been an offensive leader, pacing the team in hits (72) and walks (28), while ranking second in batting average (.340) and home runs (11). As the leadoff hitter, West has tallied 27 RBIs, eight doubles, and a triple. The Tampa, Fla. native also leads the team with 23 multi-hit games, including four games with three or more hits. He enters postseason play riding an 18-game on-base streak and an eight-game hitting streak, batting .375 over his last 10 contests.
Frett earns his first career All-Conference nod after putting together one of the most prolific power-hitting seasons in recent FIU Baseball history. He leads the team with 20 home runs—most in CUSA and 11th in the nation—along with 44 RBIs, three triples, and a 1.076 OPS. His 12 home runs in conference play are also a league-best. Frett becomes just the fourth Panther ever to hit 20 home runs in a season and the first since 2009. He's been hit by pitch a program-record 24 times, ranking 15th nationally, and has earned two CUSA Hitter of the Week honors (March 3 and April 14). Highlights of his season include two multi-homer games (March 23 vs. Jacksonville State, April 12 vs. New Mexico State) and a walk-off, three-run homer to defeat No. 17 Western Kentucky on April 27.
Cleveland made an immediate impact in his first season, hitting .285 across 43 games with 30 RBIs, nine doubles, and four home runs. The Delray Beach, Fla. native has batted .314 over his last 10 games and recorded eight multi-hit efforts, including a standout four-hit night with a double, home run, and two RBIs at Miami on May 7.
Ildefonso earned All-Freshman honors as FIU's primary designated hitter, batting .315 in 47 games with 37 RBIs and 10 doubles. He had a breakout performance at Sam Houston with four hits, including his first career three-hit game on May 15. On the season, he has tallied 12 two-hit games and delivered two four-RBI performances (April 13 vs. New Mexico State and April 22 at FGCU).
