MIAMI — FIU track and field's Amaya Bien-Aime and Michaelle Valentin were both recognized by Conference USA (CUSA) as weekly award winners, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Valentin, a graduate student thrower, earned Field Athlete of the Week while Bien-Aime, a first-year jumper, was named Freshman Athlete of the Week.
Valentin claimed the top spot in the hammer throw with a mark of 63.45 meters at the East Coast Relays this past weekend. She also finished second in the discus with a toss of 57.26 meters. She currently ranks first in CUSA in both hammer and discus. Her top marks in hammer and discus rank 10th and fourth, nationally, respectively. This is her third outdoor conference weekly honor and sixth overall this season.
Bien-Aime placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.78 meters at the East Coast Relays. Her mark is currently 41st-best in the NCAA and is the best in CUSA. She finished above competitors from several power-four schools, including Georgia Tech and Miami.
