TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – FIU drops its season opener on the road at No. 3 Florida State, 2-0.
The Panthers defense held strong for the majority of the game, allowing just 13 shots and five shots on goal in the contest. They were led by 2024 Second Team All-CUSA honoree, goalkeeper Valery Restrepo. The junior standout. denied several Florida State chances, ending the contest with three saves.
After 31 minutes of tough defense from FIU, the Seminoles' Wrianna Hudson managed to find the back of the net at the 31:27 mark to give FSU a 1-0 lead into the half.
The strong FIU defense continued to pester the No. 3 team in the nation in the second half, with one of the newest Panthers having a strong start to her FIU career in graduate Grace Morris. The Wales-native was all over the field, stifling several Seminole chances throughout the contest.
FSU gained insurance in the 68th minute off the foot of Peyton Nourse, putting the Seminoles up 2-0 with 22 minutes left to play.
Florida State played lockdown defense, allowing zero shots the entire 90 minutes of play.
Allowing just two goals in the contest, FIU held FSU to their fewest goals allowed in the series history since 2004, when the Panthers fell to the then-ranked No. 5 Seminoles, 1-0.
