Men's Basketball Releases 2026-27 Non-Conference Schedule

Panthers will have eight home games and five on the road including a home MTE and public exhibition in the first season under Joey Cantens

10/1/2026 12:00:00 PM

MIAMI– FIU men's basketball has announced its full non-conference schedule for the first season under Joey Cantens, which will begin on Nov. 2 in Miami and feature 13 total games, eight at home and five on the road.

To get the season started, FIU hosts Murray State on Oct. 22 at Ocean Bank Convocation Center in an exhibition matchup. This game will be open to the public and tip off at 6:00 p.m.

A two-game home swing commences the college basketball slate for FIU with a matchup against New College of Florida on Mon., Nov. 2. Following that will be the first-ever matchup for FIU against the newest Division I team, taking on West Florida at the OBCC on Nov. 6.

The first road trip of the season follows for the Panthers, making the short trip to FGCU on Nov. 13 for a return game. The Panthers hosted the Eagles last season in Miami, winning that matchup 89-83. Next on the trip, FIU heads to Birmingham to take on former CUSA opponent UAB on Nov. 17, where the Panthers have not been since the 2022-23 season.

The FIU MTE will take place once again this season as the Panthers will play Long Beach State (Nov. 23), Southern Utah (Nov. 24) and Arkansas State (Nov. 25) in a round-robin before Thanksgiving. All teams will play each other once in this event and all games will be televised on ESPN+.

A much-anticipated matchup returns to the schedule and wraps up the four-game homestand as Florida Atlantic visits the 305 for the first time in two seasons. FIU and FAU have met 55 times in program history with FIU holding a 28-27 edge, but have lost eight straight in the series.

Following a return trip to Jacksonville (Dec. 5), FIU embarks on its longest road trip of the non-conference slate, heading to Xavier (Dec. 12) to take on former Panthers head coach Richard Pitino. The Panthers have not faced the Musketeers or been to Cincinnati since the 1987-88 season, where Xavier won both matchups.

Right after that game is an in-state P4 bout as the Panthers head north to Orlando to duel with UCF (Dec. 16). Former TAAC foes, the Panthers and Knights have only faced off once since the 1997-98 season, a Knights win in Orlando on Nov. 6, 2023.

Wrapping up the table will be two home games before the holidays. FIU hosts Lehigh (Dec. 20) for the first time since 1991, and will follow the next day with an opponent to be announced.

FIU's conference schedule will begin at New Mexico State on Dec. 31.
