Huascar Cuevas Lozano Signs with Men's Basketball

Appeared in five games last season at Wagner, played for Cantens at Daytona State, where he was second team all-conference in 2024-25

MIAMI– Joey Cantens' inaugural roster with FIU men's basketball continues to take shape, this time adding his former Daytona State guard Huascar Cuevas Lozano (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), who spent the 2025-26 season at Wagner in the Northeast Conference.

Last season with the Seahawks, Cuevas Lozano appeared in five games in the early portion of the season, starting three. He averaged 2.6 points and 1.0 rebounds, shooting 4-10 from the field, opening the season with 13 points, and converting all three of his three-pointers at VCU on Nov. 3. He also grabbed three boards at Fordham on Nov. 7.

During his sophomore season at Daytona State, Cuevas Lozano played in 31 games, starting three, averaging 8.6 points and 2.6 rebounds for the Falcons. He was named All-Citrus Conference Second Team and NJCAA Region 8 All-Tournament Team, recording a career-high 24 points against Miami Dade on Jan. 11, a stone's throw from where he will spend the 2026-27 season. He also had 20 against Saint Petersburg on Jan. 29 and a season-high seven assists twice, including once against #21 Florida SouthWestern (Jan. 18).

As a freshman, in 31 games, he started five, posting 7.1 points per contest and shooting 43.3 percent from the floor. He had a season-best 18 against Polk State (Feb. 24) and a career-high nine assists against USC Salkehatchie (Nov. 11), finishing the season shooting 36.5 percent from three.

Cuevas Lozano attended Central Pointe HS in Orlando and is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic He represented his country at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in 2021.
