JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– FIU cross country opened its season in Jacksonville on Friday by finishing sixth out of 19 teams in the UNF Intercollegiate.

On the men's side, Pedro Zapata Hernandez led the way by finishing 25th, running to a time of 15:25.32. Cody Simonson was right behind him in 38th with a time of 15:46.12, while Brad Malick-Beltran placed 48th with a time of 15:58.28 to round out the top Panther finishers.

For the women, Sunniva Tangen Andersen led the way in her debut, finishing 32nd with a time of 18:38.64. Gianna Del Pizzo and Corali Jou Fabrega paced the rest of the Panthers and finished 58th and 59th.

Both teams will head to Tallahassee for the FSU Pre-Regional Invitational on Sept. 18.
