Fresh off a stellar senior campaign in the circle for FIU, Kasey Barrett joins the 2010-11 Panther coaching staff as a student assistant.
Barrett led FIU to perhaps its most successful campaign in school history a season ago, as the Panthers went 38-21 overall and 17-7 in Sun Belt Conference action en route to securing the program's second-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament and FIU's first NCAA Tournament victory of all-time. Along the way, Barrett earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South Region Second Team honors as well as Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-SBC accolades. In addition, she registered FIU single-season records of 240 strikeouts and eight shutouts and earned SBC Pitcher of the Week distinction on six occasions to put her career total for the award at 10.
A native of Starke, Fla., Barrett ended her career as just the second pitcher in program history to post more than 500 strikeouts. Her 595 career strikeouts, 53 career wins and 15 career shutouts each rank second all-time at FIU, while her 62 complete games rank first and her seven saves rank third on the career charts.
Prior to FIU, Barrett played one year at South Florida Community College where she earned Freshman of the Year honors and was an All-State and All-Region VIII second-team selection.
The daughter of William Barrett and Glenn and Robbin Witt, Barrett graduated from FIU in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in health service administration.
