As a Senior (2014-15): Named the 2014-15 FIU Female Athlete of the Year…Awarded Conference USA’s Swimmer of the Year, the second-straight year an FIU swimmer has won the award…Was a C-USA Champion in the 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and 400 IM…Represented FIU in all three of those events as well at the NCAA Championships…Closes her career as a school record-holder in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and is part of three relay teams that own school records…Swam eight total events on the season, placing in the top three a total of 29 times…Never finished lower than fourth in any event…Picked up 18 first place finishes.
 
As a Junior (2013-14): Conference USA champion in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke…Swam in 10 events for the Panthers…Finished in the top three of her events on 20 different occasions…Had 14, first-place finishes on the season…Set two school records at the C-USA Championships, swimming the 100 freestyle in 50.01 seconds and the 200 freestyle in 1:46.90…Swam the 200 backstroke in 1:55.05 to pick up the C-USA title…Other conference title came in the 200 IM, as she placed first with a mark of 1:57.94…Closed the season by representing FIU at the NCAA Championships, swimming in the 200 IM, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. 

As a Sophomore (2012-13): Participated in three events at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM…Also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 backstroke, where she posted a mark of 1:56.74 in the preliminaries…Crowned the Sun Belt Champion in the 100 backstroke, where she posted a school record time of 53.94 seconds…Just missed her previous set school record by .10 seconds as she earned the Sun Belt title in the 200 backstroke as well, earning a time of 1:54.40…Earned a solid second place finish at the SBC Championships in the 200 IM, posting a mark of 1:59.36…Enters the 2013-14 season with three school records individually and four records as part of a relay team. 
 
As a Freshman (2011-12): Had arguably the most successful freshman year in the history of FIU swimming… Named CollegeSwimming.com All-American after qualifying for NCAA Championships in the 200 IM, 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke… Named Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Year… Won the 200 IM (1:59.14), 200 freestyle (1:48.09) and 200 backstroke (1:54.40) at the SBC Championships… Set SBC and FIU records in the 200 IM (1:59.14) and 200 backstroke (1:54:40) and FIU records in the 100 backstroke (54:92) and the 200 freestyle (1:48.09)… Heading into the NCAA Championships, she was the No. 1 ranked freshman in the 200 backstroke, sixth-ranked freshman in the 200 IM and ranked ninth in the 100 backstroke among her freshman peers.  
 
Prior to FIU: Member of the Icelandic Junior National Team since 2003… From 2004 through 2011, was an Icelandic National Champion 43 times, while holding 25 Icelandic national records…Daughter of Gustaf Hjaltason and Gudrun Sigurtharsdoltir…Her sister swam in the 2012 London Olympics.
 
Personal: Born on Sept. 13, 1990 in Horsens, Denmark… She is a liberal studies major.
