2017-18: Was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes with a 3.0 grade point average or better … Saw action in 21 games for FIU coming off the bench … Averaged 2.4 points-per-game and 1.2 rebounds-per-outing … Finished the season tied for fifth on the team in total steals, with nine … Shot 46.3 percent (19-for-41) from the field … Scored double figures in two games, both coming in the first seven outings, including a career-high 17 points in the third game of the season against Elon (11/17) … Was 6-for-10 (60.0 percent) from the floor, including 4-for-6 (66.7 percent), and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line against the Phoenix, while also grabbing a career-best five rebounds … Also had 10 points on 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) shooting against Florida National (11/29) … Recorded a career-best three assists against Rice (2/24). Prep Career: Averaged 17.1 points-per-game and hauled down 5.2 rebounds-per-outing, while also logging 2.1 assists- and 2.0 steals-per-contest as a senior at Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia … Finished his scholastic career with 1,318 career points ... As impressive as his senior statistics were, Banks, an athletic backcourt player, may be best known for his backboard-shattering dunk that made him an Internet sensation in January 2017 ... The play was ESPN Sportscenter’s No. 1 Play of the Day on January 11, in addition to the No. 2 Dunk of the Year – second only to then Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School, and Duke sensation, Zion Williamson, the eventual No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft – and the No. 9 Play of the Year by MaxPreps ... Following his senior campaign, Banks was named Heritage’s Most Valuable Player and was a first team all-state selection by the Georgia Coaches Association ... Personal: Born in Atlanta, Georgia … Is the son of Terry Banks … Has one sibling, Jada Banks … Goes by the nickname Zeek … Enjoys cooking and listening to music in his spare time … Was also recruited by UNC Greensboro, UTEP and North Carolina A&T among others … Also excelled off the court being honored as a scholar student-athlete and a member of the A/B Honor Roll at Heritage High School … Plans on majoring in sports medicine at FIU with aspirations of becoming an athletic trainer.
