Kenard Lang enters his second season at FIU, coaching the defensive line. Lang served as a defensive analyst for the Panthers in 2018.
In 2019, Lang oversaw a defensive line group that made improvements from the season prior while producing NFL rookie free agent Teair Tart who signed with the Tennessee Titans. The improvements in 2019 were due to the impact of incoming transfers Alexy Jean-Baptiste and Chris Whittaker, who combined for eight sacks and 13 tackles for loss to provide a much needed spark for the defensive line.Â
Lang brings over 10 years of pro experience to the FIU staff, having played for the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos. Lang was selected 17th overall in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Redskins after his successful collegiate career at the University of Miami, where he played under Butch Davis.

Lang also played under Davis while the pair were members of the Cleveland Browns, as the two spent 2002-04 together. Lang capped his NFL career with 449 tackles, 55.0 sacks and 15 forced fumbles and retired after the 2006 season.

After retiring from the NFL, Lang broke into the coaching ranks at Jones High School in his hometown of Orlando, Florida with former Cleveland Browns teammate Charlie Frye in 2008. Following great success at Jones, Lang was named head coach at Wekiva High school in Apopka, Florida ahead of the 2013 season.
Lang attended Maynard Evans High School in Orlando, Florida, where her lettered in football, basketball and baseball.Â

Lang, a native of Orlando, Florida, graduated from the University of Miami in 1997 with a degree in liberal arts. Lang has two young daughters, Aubrey and Mia.
