Kerry Dixon II joins the FIU staff as the running backs coach after previously serving in the same role up the road at FAU. Dixon brings eight years of coaching experience at the collegiate level to the Panther football program.

Dixon joined FAU’s staff in January 2012 after having previous working experience with the Owls’ offensive coordinator Brian Wright at Montana State. In 2013, the Owls finished fifth in Conference USA with 2,215 rushing yards (184.6). Behind the athleticism of quarterback Jaquez Johnson, the Owls had three backs that averaged at least 34 rushing yards per game, with Johnathan Wallace leading the way with 573 yards on the ground.

One of Dixon’s top priorities for the 2012 season at FAU was to replace FAU’s all-time leading rusher and current Washington Redskin Alfred Morris. Dixon and the Owl coaching staff used multiple players to fill the role, a group that would combine for just 38 yards less and 167 more receiving yards.

Prior to his time with the Owls, Dixon spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons as Montana State’s running backs coach. After mentoring Second-Team All-Big Sky running back Orenzo Davis in 2010, Dixon had a running back tandem of Cody Kirk (1,351 yards) and Tray Robinson (641) combine for nearly 2,000 rushing yards in 2011, reaching the end zone 19 times on the ground and 21 times overall. Kirk earned First Team All-Big Sky honors for his efforts, while Robinson was named to the second team, landing Big Sky Newcomer of the Year honors.

Dixon was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at NCAA Division II Stillman College in 2009. He was responsible for overseeing an offense that produced honorable mention All-America running back Quinn Porter, who rushed 138.6 yards per game to lead Stillman’s conference in 2009. Porter went on to have a professional career with the St. Louis Rams.

Prior to his time at Stillman, Dixon was a quarterbacks coach at Texas Southern in 2008 and Morgan State in 2007. He began his coaching career at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas.

Dixon played quarterback at Baylor in 2000, starting twice as a true freshman, but moved to receiver the next season and redshirted with an injury. He transferred to Hampton, playing both receiver and quarterback for the Pirates from 2002-04. He served as a team captain at Hampton as a senior, and played in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities All-Star Classic in 2005.
