Biography
2018-19 (Redshirt Junior Year): Was named to the Conference USA (C-USA) Commissioner’s Honor Roll, recognizing students with a 3.0 grade-point-average (GPA) or better, and earned the C-USA Academic Medal, given to student-athletes with a 3.75 GPA or better … Saw action in 33 of FIU’s 34 games, getting the start in nine … Averaged 9.3 points-per-game which was good enough for fourth on the team in scoring, and averaged 2.3 rebounds-per-outing … Was third on the team in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 33.8 percent (79-for-234) from behind the arc … His 2.4 three-point field goals made-per-game was eighth in Conference USA … Scored double figures in 14 of the 33 games he played in, including two 20-point outings … Scored a career-high 22 points against Florida Memorial (12/20) on 7-for-14 (50.0 percent) shooting from the field, including 6-for-13 (46.2 percent) from behind the three-point arc, and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line … Also dropped 21 points against Southern Miss (1/31) … Grabbed a career-high seven rebounds in the season-opener against Webber International (11/7).
2017-18 (Junior Year): Saw limited action for FIU due to multiple injuries, but showed a tremendous upside during his time on the court … Played in just six games, logging 26.7 minutes-per-outing for the Panthers, averaging 12.7 points-per-game … Scored in double figures in four of his six games for FIU, including a career-high 19 points, on 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) shooting from the field and 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from behind the three-point line … Connected on at least four three-point shots in three of his six games played … Fell one-point shy of equaling his career-best against James Madison, netting 18 points on 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from three-point range … Also netted double figures with 14 points against South Alabama (12/2) and 16 points at North Florida (12/13).
2016-17 (Sophomore Year at Indian River State College): Played his first two seasons of collegiate basketball at Indian River State College (IRSC) in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he had an impressive sophomore campaign … Averaged 20.8 points-per-game on the year which led the Pioneers in scoring and was third in the Florida College System Activities Association Athletics (FCSAAA) helping IRSC to a 17-12 record and an 8-7 mark in the FSCAAA … He shot 39.2 percent from the field, including 35.2 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 84.9 percent from the free throw line … Nunez scored 602 points in his final season at IRSC and 895 points in his two seasons in Fort Pierce … Known for his shooting range, Nunez netted 113 three-pointers as a sophomore and accumulated a two-year total of 187 made three pointers for his career … Also, Nunez averaged 5.5 rebounds-per-game and dished out 3.0 assists-per-outing … For his efforts, Nunez was a First Team All-FCSAAA selection and earned Region 8 All-State honors … Scored in double figures in 28 games played – including 20-or-more points in 18 outings – and surpassed the 30-point threshold three times … Had a career-high 37 points against College of Central Florida (12/11), 30 points against Santa Fe College (12/16) and 33 points against Miami Dade College (1/4) all during a four-game stretch … Had three double-doubles with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Florida State College at Jacksonville (12/14), 14 points and 11 rebounds against ASA College-Miami (2/7) and 15 points and 11 rebounds against Broward College (2/25) in his final game with Indian River … Handed out five-or-more assists six times, including a career-high nine against Miami Dade College (1/28) … Played his junior college basketball for Charlie Wilson.
2015-16 (Freshman Year at Indian River State College): As a freshman, Nunez averaged 9.8 points-per-game and grabbed 3.5 rebounds-per-outing in 30 games while shooting 37.5 percent from the field, 39.6 percent from behind the three-point arc and 84.4 percent from the free throw line … Scored in double figures in 14 games during this rookie campaign, including a, then, career-high 25 points against State College of Florida (12/2) … Posted his first career double-double with a 22-point, 11-rebound effort against Miami Dade College (2/20) … Nunez was an honorable mention all-conference selection for the 2015-16 season.
Prep Career: Nunez played his high school basketball at Oak Ridge High School in Orlando where he averaged 8.3 points-per-game … He helped lead the Pioneers to the District and Metro titles during his senior campaign and was named Most Improved Player and captain during his final season at Oak Ridge … Was also a four-year member of the school’s Honor Roll … Played his high school basketball for Alex Jackson.
Personal: Born in Orlando, Florida … Son of Willy and Sandra Nunez … Has two sisters, Alexandra and Alishenka, and a brother, Jonathan … Was also recruited by UNC Greensboro, UTEP, Little Rock and James Madison among others … Is majoring in sports and recreation management … Would like to play professional basketball when his collegiate career comes to an end.
