Joining the golf program in August, 2015, Lucia Fernandez Valdez is a graduate assistant coach, pursuing a Master's of Recreation and Sport Management at FIU.

She played four years for Jacksonville State University, earning All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in her last three year for the Gamecocks. She led her team with a 76.31 stroke average in that senior season and finished sixth in the OVC Championships as a senior. She was the Gamecocks' top finisher in the NCAA State College, Pennsylvania Regional that May. She finished in a tie for 41st in the final result of her career. She finished her career with the lowest scoring average in program history, at just over 76 strokes per round. Her 107 rounds played were third-most when she graduated.

The native of Cordoba, Argentina received a degree in December of 2012 in Business Management from JSU.
