Brian Periman enters his second season on the FIU women’s soccer staff, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, while working primarily with the goalkeepers. Periman has had previous stops at East Carolina (2014-16), High Point (2013), Arizona (2012) and Florida Atlantic (2011).
In Periman’s first season over the Panther goalies, FIU held opponents to six matches with one goal or less. Prior to joining FIU, Periman spent three seasons on the East Carolina women’s soccer staff, serving as an assistant coach.
While in Greenville, North Carolina, Periman and ECU matched the program’s single-season program record with 11 shutouts, courtesy of excellent goalkeeping by senior Erika Lenns, who earned All-American Athletic Conference Second Team honors with 5.5 shutouts and a 1.14 goals against average in 13 starts, while junior Saundra Baron posted five shutouts and a 0.73 goals against average in eight starts. Baron also played with the Trinidad & Tobago National Team.
Periman arrived at ECU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at High Point University in 2013. Additionally, Periman has made stops at Arizona (2012) and Florida Atlantic (2011), with a previous volunteer gig with the Wildcats in 2010.
In addition to his coaching experience at the collegiate level, Periman has worked as the goalkeeper coach for the Arizona Olympic Development Program. His duties included preparing daily training schedules for the State ODP goalkeepers and conducting their fitness sessions.
From 2010-11, Periman was the goalkeeper coach for the Arizona Rush of the Women’s Professional Soccer League. Periman helped guide the team to a U-23 National Championship and mentor Rush goalie, Haley Kopemeyer, to a No. 1 league ranking.
Periman also boasts an impressive resume as a player, after playing three seasons at Menlo College in Atherton, California. As the team’s goalie, Periman helped guide the Oaks to 24 wins – 20 of which came against conference foes. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in business management, before going on to play one season with F.C. Tucson of the National Premier League in 2011.
Prior to earning his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “E” License in 2013, “D” License in 2014 and his “C” License in 2017, Periman received his National Goalkeeper diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), now known as the United Soccer Coaches.
