Darin Yrigoyen

Yrigoyen was hired in September 2023 as the Director of Athletic Communications and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic and Brand Communications in July 2025. In this role, he serves as the primary contact for the FIU Football, Softball and Women’s Tennis programs along with leading the FIU Athletic Communications office. 

While at FIU, Yrigoyen previously served as the primary contact for the men’s basketball, indoor volleyball, women’s golf, women’s tennis and cross country/track programs. During his tenure, he has played a vital role, in collaboration with the Creative Content team, in increasing the Panthers’ presence on social media while revamping and revitalizing several avenues for content on fiusports.com. 

Yrigoyen brings seven years of sports information expertise prior to FIU, having most recently served as the Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Chicago. He also currently serves in a part-time role as the Director of Information with the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL). Yrigoyen is a proud member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) professional group and currently serves on the Advocacy and Scholarship Committees. 

The Langhorne, Pa., native also has made stops at the Ivy League, Kutztown University, Lynn University, Dominican University and the University of Chicago. Additionally, he has held roles with the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) and the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, serving as Media Liaison and Social Media Coordinator. 

During his tenure at the University of Chicago, Yrigoyen served as the primary contact for a variety of sports, highlighted by his role with the 2022 Division III National Championship-winning and undefeated men’s soccer program under head coach Julianne Sitch. Sitch became the first-ever female head coach to win an NCAA National Championship coaching a men’s program and was featured in a multitude of high-level media outlets, including ESPN, NBC, CBS and world-renowned podcast, Men In Blazers. 

At Dominican, Yrigoyen worked as the primary contact for all sport programs with the Stars. During his tenure, he helped to overhaul and enhance both the sports information and social media efforts, of which included providing ‘content day’ photo and video shoots for all programs. Yrigoyen also led the promotional and social media efforts for the nationally-ranked men’s volleyball program and NCAA-qualifying men’s and women’s soccer programs. 

While at Lynn University, he was very involved in the hosting of both the NCAA men's soccer and volleyball regionals, serving as the host SID for both tournaments. Yrigoyen also was responsible for primary media coverage of the Lynn men's soccer program, which advanced to the 2019 NCAA Final Four. 

A graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, Yrigoyen was a two-year member of the Duhawk men's volleyball program before transitioning to a lead student assistant role with the Athletic Communications Department. He went on to get his master's degree in Business Administration from Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa., where he also filled the role of Graduate Assistant. 

Yrigoyen is an avid Philadelphia-sports fan and currently resides in Kendall with his, dog, Kane, named after Harry Kane, the England-national and former Tottenham Hotspur player.Â
