FIU’s Scott Calabrese Named the NSCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 30, 2015) – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized the 2015 NSCAA Regional Coaches of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III on Monday and FIU's Scott Calabrese was named the 2015 NSCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

In his second season with the Panthers, Calabrese earned Co-C-USA Coach of the Year honors after guiding FIU (12-7-1) to its best record in over 11 years. The top scoring offense in C-USA, FIU averaged 2.05 goals-per-game (No. 12 in the nation). FIU finished the regular season with a record over .500 for the first time since 2005. Earning the No. 5 seed in this year's C-USA tournament, the Panthers returned to the league's post-season tournament for the first time since 2007, claiming the program's first Conference USA title and earning the team's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2004. Following the team's historic run in the C-USA Tournament, FIU moved into the top 25 in the NSCAA's final regular season poll at No. 16, announced back on Nov. 17. Earlier this season, FIU cracked the top 25, earning a ranking as high as No. 14. The Panthers knocked off No. 9 Old Dominion (2-1 on Oct. 17) and defeated No. 22 Florida Gulf Coast (2-1 on Oct. 20) in Ft. Myers, Fla.
