@FIUFootball Returns to Spring Practice

Today's photo gallery – Day 4

MIAMI (March 21, 2017) – The FIU football team returned to the practice field on Tuesday morning after a week off due to Spring Break.

After utilizing the FIU Soccer Stadium for the first three days of Spring Practice (March 7-9), the Panthers took to their new turf field at Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium for the team's fourth practice. The new surface, FieldTurf's Revolution 360, has been installed at such facilities as Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots) and CenturyLink Field (Seattle Seahawks).

FIUSports.com caught up with running back Anthony Jones and linebacker Treyvon Williams following practice.

Jones on returning to the field after Spring Break:
"Practice is going great. We're just trying to keep the intensity high. Coming back from spring break, we are focused on keeping the momentum from the first three practices."

Jones on the team's energy:
"It's wonderful. We are trying to bring new energy to the program. Coach Davis has got things cracking. It's high-intensity around here."

Jones on being a veteran of spring ball:
"It's a lot different from my first year. As a veteran, you have to set the tone for the upcoming year. We feel like we have something special and it's going to be big this year."

Williams on returning to the field after Spring Break:
"It's the first day back and we came with a lot of energy. Everybody was enthusiastic, ready to get out there, ready to get better. I think that was the big part of the day: everybody had a lot of energy."

Williams on the new turf field:
"It's totally different. You just feel the difference when you step onto it. It's easier to break, it's wonderful. I feel like the turf had a lot to do with the high energy today. Everybody felt comfortable on it."

Williams on being a veteran of spring ball:
"My first spring practice was hard. I didn't know anything, I was just new to everything. Now that I'm older, I just have to come out ready to work. As a veteran, you want to give everyone else energy so they can feed off you. It's also important to teach the young guys the ropes, so they know how to do things when you're gone."

Williams on this year's linebackers:
"I try to always tell them that we have to be the best group on the team no matter what. We've been holding on to that for two years now, so we now have to make sure that it becomes a tradition."

FIU returns to practice on Thursday, March 23, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

The annual Spring Game is set for April 7 at 7 p.m., at Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium.
