MIAMI – Holding a 12-8 advantage in
shots, including a 6-3 lead in shots on goal,
the FIU women's soccer team lost to Louisiana-Lafayette,
2-0, on Sunday in Sun Belt Conference action.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie
in the first 45 minutes. The Golden Panthers
fired the first three shots in the contest;
however, the UL defense denied the early
opportunities. The Ragin Cajuns’ got
off three shots, only one on goal, against
the FIU defense with the Golden Panthers
defense holding strong.
In the second half, UL took a 1-0 lead
on a Sherryl Owens header in the 64th minute.
The host Ragin’ Cajuns added an insurance
tally in the 83rd minute on a Kristina Nadolski
goal.
The loss drops the Golden Panthers to 4-8
overall and 2-2 in the conference; however,
the Ragin’ Cajuns raise their record
to 5-5-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference
play. In the loss, three FIU players –
Valerie Patrick, Janet Ligouri and Charissa
Gingerich each recorded two shots.
Up next, FIU will travel across town to
face Miami on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
