FIU Drops Heartbreaker to Miami, 1-0

MIAMI – A goal in the 64th minute by Miami's Kelly Pflugner proved to be the difference maker as the FIU women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the host Hurricanes on Thursday night.

Pflinger ripped a shot from 35 yards out that deflected off FIU goalkeeper Madeline Gannon and into the net. Despite allowing the goal, it overshadowed a strong night by the Golden Panther goalkeeper. Gannon made a season-high seven saves in the loss.

With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 3-8 overall on they year. The Golden Panthers fall to 4-9 on the season.

In the first 45 minutes, the Hurricanes outshot FIU, 10-4, however, Gannon made five saves as the defense answered the UM challenge.

The game remained scoreless until the gamewinner by Pflunger at the 63:58 mark.

The Golden Panthers sought out the equalizer for the next 16 minutes with four-more shots only to come up short.

FIU will next have its final homestand before hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, hosting Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday (Oct. 22) at 7 p.m.
